OBC Creamy Layer Concept Will Also Be Applicable In Psus - Nirmal Singh Lotus
The famous creamy layer OBC
concept will now be extended to PSUs and financial institutions in the country,
Arun Jaitley said.
It has been more than 24 years
since the OBC creamy layer was introduced by the government. On Wednesday, the
Union Cabinet revealed that the government had been planning to extend the
reservations further. The concept of creamy layer in OBC was just limited to
central government but now the limit of Rs 8 lakh will now applicable for
financial institutes and Public Sector Undertakings [PSUs]. - Nirmal Singh Lotus
Nirmal Singh Lotus says the annual ceiling limit was
raised from 6 lakh to 8 lakh last week and this week, it is being reported that
the reservations for other backward classes [OBC] will be extended.
The reservations are decided on
the basis of the status and income of the applicants in 1993. The fact that the
creamy layer didn’t extend to financial institutes and public sector
undertakings didn’t sit well with the government. To provide more opportunities
to OBC candidates, this step has been taken; which according to Nirmal Singh Lotus should have been
taken years ago.
‘Both, the limit Rs 6 lakh and applications of the creamy layer
reservation should have been extended years ago. The union ministers and the
central government have been advising the cabinet for extending the limit and
with the approval now final, the future looks brighter’, he said.
The cabinet has given its
approval on the advice of the cabinet ministers who were in support of the
extension. The limit that was changed last week from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 Lakh
will now be applicable to not only the central government but also to financial
institutions and public sector undertakings.
But the candidates whose parents
were on constitutional posts [in group A and B] will be excluded, mentioned Nirmal Singh Lotus.
