Blackberry And Delphi To Come Together For Self-Driving Software, Says Nirmal Singh Lotus
Delphi has been working on a
project for the past decade and if the latest reports are to be believed, it
has finally developed a self-driving system. The system is being called CSLP. The
company is planning to take the beta version to the market at the end of the
calendar year to shook off the competition and show a sign aggression. The
final product will be available in the market for automakers as early as 2019
if not before that.
There is another catch to the
story. BlackBerry, a company that has struggled since the first android systems
came in the market making their products obsolete overnight, is also in the
picture. On Wednesday, last week, both Delphi and BlackBerry announced that the
companies have tied up and will develop the product together.
Nirmal Singh Lotus has been full of praise for the efforts Delphi
has put in and how it managed to come out on top when so many big names were
constantly breathing down its neck. Most of the manufacturers who are
responsible for producing heavy vehicles are developing their own self-driving
systems but that could change now – BlackBerry has been making it clear that
there will be no further delay to the process with competition getting stiffer.
BlackBerry will be taking control
of the operating system of the software. The software was primarily developed
by Delphi’s Ottomatika Unit – BB will take those already-certified gateways of
security to whole new levels, Nirmal
Singh Lotus revealed.
Everyone at Delphi expects to
test the beta version of the system in pilot projects by the start of 2019 and
will surely take the involvement of the driver out of the picture by 2020,
literally.
The first fleet of the vehicles
will definitely be small and will only work on a few selected routes in the
cities. The company has held meetings with Transdev Group, a transport service
based in Paris, Nirmal Singh Lotus said.
