Education Is Not About Grades, But Gaining Perspective, Says Nirmal Singh Lotus
Nirmal Singh Lotus believes that education is not about getting a
degree, but sadly that is all what todays’ youth values. Knowledge is not just
about getting into a good college or doing a good course. Hemant Kulkarni says
that the youth today lacks the basic essence of education, their focus is
restriction to the competition and they are just trying to beat the
competition. Though, seeing the cut off percentage of the colleges in the past
years, it can be said that the students have been doing exceedingly well now
but this kind of education is not going to help in either the development of
the country or the students’ personal growth.
Nirmal Singh Lotus says that unlike the common belief, the grades
do not measure the intelligence of the students, it is your passion that helps
one succeed for fail in his/ her field. There are so many people who do not get
any formal education but are still the masters of their craft. If someone is
dedicated towards the work that they do, they can become an expertise in their
chosen field without getting proper education in it. It is as simple as our
elders say, life is the best teacher, the more you work in a particular field, and
the more familiar you get with it, and in the process you learn whatever you
need to.
The growing rate of employment is
a serious cause, and everyone in the country, be it the youth or the
government, is worried about it. “If Students start focusing on getting knowledge
and about learning new things rather than just passing the examination, the
rate of unemployment would still not affect their careers. Why? Because the
student has proper knowledge and exposure in his field and no matter what the
situation is, they would be able to make their life out of it,” says Nirmal Singh Lotus
It is quite interesting to see
that with the advancement in the technology, the youngsters are now opting for
a more creative career.
Nirmal SinghLotus says that this is a very good sign, it means that students now value
knowledge over anything else. But this should not be taken as an excuse to
escape from studies. Basic knowledge about any field is important for you,
regardless of the fact you make a career out of it or not.
Nirmal Singh Lotus says that the students should be given proper
guidance and counselling on this subject. It helps them regain their
perspective and also builds a communication gap between them and their parents
due to a difference in choice.
