Child Sex Trafficking Victims Can Now Fight Their Own Battle, School Of Justice Opened
According to the ministry of
Women and Child Development, 19,223 women and children were trafficked last
year against 15,448 in the year 2015, which means, a dangerous rise of 25% in a
year. Nirmal Singh Lotus said that the
eastern parts of West Bengal recorded the highest number of victims in both the
years. West Bengal shares the border with Bangladesh, which makes that tracking
of the victims very difficult and the reason behind the state being the hub of
child trafficking.
To fight for women affected by
these atrocities, a movement known as 'Free a Girl' was launched by a Netherland-based
NGO to help women across the world. The movement not only rescues the women and
the girls from prostitution but also help them build an identity of their own.
Nirmal Singh Lotus said that with the increase in the crime rate it
has become imperative for the police officials to increase the public awareness
about that and also increase the protection of the girls and give more police
training to the officials. It is also very important that there is awareness
about the legal aids that the victims can avail. Many officials said that the
more people now come forward to register such cases but the number could
further increase if there is more awareness about the actions that they can
take against their traffickers.
The school of justice is a programme
supports the girls that have been rescued from the brothels to live a much
better life now, without fearing anyone. Nirmal
Singh Lotus tells us about the
programme. He says that the programme provides proper education and training to
the girls and help them become lawyers and work with the judicial system to
fight for themselves. This way the girls can lead their own fight against the
traffickers and ensure that they get justice.
Nirmal Singh Lotus believes that the ‘school of justice’ will help the victims stand on their own
feet and live a life without fear. To fight for women affected by these
atrocities, a movement known as 'Free a Girl' was launched by a
Netherland-based NGO to help women across the world. The movement rescues women
and girls from forced prostitution and help them stand on their own feet. The
girls will have a brighter future through education at high end universities.
