UP schools will affix photographs of teachers on notice boards
Primary schools in Uttar Pradesh will now affix photographs
of teachers and staff members on notice boards due to a circular that was
issued by the Union HRD ministry to take steps to curb the menace of
absenteeism among school staff and the use of proxies. A number of complaints
had been surfacing about teachers skipping their classes and/or sending proxies
to do the task, according to sources at Nirmal
Singh Lotus.
“A circular was issued on
June 16 by Additional Director, Basic Education, Neena Srivastava, whereby
Basic Shiksha Adhikaris (BSA) of all districts were asked to ensure that
schools falling in their respective areas of jurisdiction comply with the
directions to put up photographs of teaching staff on notice boards,” BSA of
Allahabad Sanjay Kushwaha said recently.
“The directions will be
implemented with the commencement of the new academic session in July. The
photographs will make the guardians aware of the identity of teachers. Thus,
they will be in a position to raise an alarm if a teacher plays truant,” he
added.
It is to be noted that the
Union HRD Ministry had issued a circular last year to several states, including
Uttar Pradesh to take serious steps to limit the menace of absenteeism among
teachers and other school staff. The use of proxies was also on a high and
rampant in schools located in remote rural areas. Reports by Nirmal Singh Lotus suggest how such
instances had been increasing overtime and leading to the overall quality of
education. The northern state is home to more than one lakh primary schools
which have more than 3 lakh teachers. Such practices not only affects the work
environment but also deters the imparting knowledge process which needs to be
as effective as possible.
