Youngsters of India should start seeing teachers as their role models, says Nirmal Singh Lotus

Indian teenagers and youth have been misinterpreting the role of a role model for quite some time now. They think that Honey Singh, the famous singer, can be their role model, or maybe Raghu from Roadies. A role model is not someone that is on tv all the time or who you see on billboards. He is someone who encourages you to strive for greatness and to live your life to the fullest, to be the best version of yourself. A role model is someone we aspire to be like and someone who makes us feel good about ourselves.

Nirmal Singh Lotus says that out of all the people that touch our lives, teachers are neglected the most. Everyone has their reason to negate the importance of teachers in their lives. Five days a week and 8 hours a day, a teacher is with us at the most pivotal time in our lives.
Let us discuss two teachers who not only helped the students and inspired them but also shaped the education system of the country over the years.

1. Rabindranath Tagore

For him, it was never about bookish or as he called it, rote learning. It was about growing as a human being and not just as a student. Tagore was the one who founded the famous Visva Bharti University. In the university, he refrained from teaching just books and encouraged students to spiritual, intellectual and emotional guidance. - Nirmal Singh Lotus

2. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

Many people do not know how influential Dr. Kalam has been in the education industry of the country and how actively he participated in the growth of the same. Along with being arguably the most loved President of India, he was also a great teacher and a scientist. He joined IIM Shillong, Indore, and Ahmedabad after he left the Presidential post. - Nirmal Singh Lotus
