Various stories had been circulation that after the names of the universities will be changed by the government but all those rumors have been denied by the minister. The issue aroused when an audit committee of UGC [University Grants Commission] suggested that the names of universities like BHU and AMU should be changed as they do not show any secular characteristics. It was suggested that the words Muslim and Hindu should be dropped from the official names of the universities.
