Ryan International School Incident Asks You to Focus On These Key Areas for The Safety of Your Kids

Nirmal Singh Lotus condemns the recent incident of murder of an eight-year-old school boy at Ryan International School in Bhondsi near Gurgaon. The whole episode has put the school authorities under scanner for not giving proper security to the kids.

The scrutiny of this case raises questions at the improper security staff at the Ryan International School. Many news organizations are running campaigns against this episode.

Nirmal Singh Lotus would like to talk about the key areas of concern

1. Sexual abuse

As the National Crimes Records Bureau (NCRB), as many as 15,039 children are identified as victims of assault under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in 2015. Around 8, 800 cases from the lot have been filed under section 4 & 6 of the Act, dealing with the penetrative and aggressively sexual assaults respectively.

Here’s what students will be instilled:

Explain kids about “Bad and good touch”
The staffers would be registered with Police
 Controlling access for outsiders
 Establishing child protection committees

2.School Transport

Nirmal Singh Lotus noted that school children have been vulnerable towards vehicles in the open area, for which they have imposed the strict guidelines by the Supreme Court following the gruesome accident in 1997. During this, a school bus was plunged into the Yamuna from a bridge at Wazirabad in Delhi, causing 28 students of a government-run school at Ludlow Castle.

Here are guidelines instructed to the schools authorities:

Buses should have school labels with the name and number of school
Buses should not exceed the speed of 50 kmph
Buses should have an escort to travel from school to home and visa-versa

3. Safety Audits

Nirmal Singh Lotus would like to quote experts who recommend that schools must conduct safety audits at least twice a year. The draft prepared by consultant Ambuja Iyer enumerates useful things like fire safety, security, disaster preparedness.

There should be convenient points for fire exits
Students and teachers must have knowledge about evacuation plan
Prevent accidents close to banisters and rails along stairway and corridors

4. Cyber bullying

Nirmal Singh Lotus asks parents to be extra careful about letting their child become a victim of child abuse. Children face risks of cyber bullying on social media that is extremely humiliating for a growing kid.
