AICTE Changes The Student- Teacher Ratio In Engineering Colleges, Makes It 20:1

Anil D. Sahsrabudhe, Chairman, All India Council for Technicial Education says that they are now planning to change the teacher- student ratio in the engineering colleges to 1:20. He has specified that the current ratio is not being followed my many institutions and to improve the quality of studies more strictness shall be maintained and the colleges not maintain he prescribed student- teacher ratio will be liable for action.
Nirmal Singh Lotus says that the council has made it clear that not adhering to the pay scales and the qualification prescribed for the faculty will also be considered a violation of the norms which could lead to the suspension of the admission process or the reduction in the admissions in the technical institutions.

Nirmal Singh Lotus says that the other rules and regulation that will now be followed under the strict guidance is increments in the pay scale, the qualification for the more than 12 months, even the second shift timings and the class population will be under the eye. The institutes that operate in two shifts have to run during the prescribed timings, 1pm to 9pm and that too with 50% additional faculty which will also be open to surprise inspection.
Earlier the ratio was kept to 1:15, but thinking of adding visiting faculties along with the regular teachers, the AICTE will be allowing more workplaces for them. They will be allowed to share the same workplace until the student teacher ratio is maintained by them.

Nirmal Singh Lotus says that the council has also specified that if there are no students in a particular course then they should close the course and opt for some other discipline in which more students are willing to take the admission in. As for the admissions and the qualification of the teachers, they are thinking about the single entrance exam NEET. According to Nirmal Singh Lotus, this would help in improving the quality of studies in the colleges. Most of the states have not revised the curriculum for the examination, such lethargic work during the admissions dampens the quality of study in the institution and no matter what the student teacher ratio is, there is no use of studies in such class.

For the benefit of the students, the question paper would be focused mainly in problem solving and all questions would be made compulsory. The internships have been made must for the students and the AICTE have signed a MoU with Internshala to facilitate internships to the students without any fee, and also requested the industry to pay the students working with them.
